Students cover a wide variety of genres and repertoire in both singing lessons and in songwriting tuition and courses. Here is a little selection of some of the pieces written/performed in the Bangor teaching studio recently.
This is where I get to show off my talented students’ work!
Jim McClean: The Garden
Jim is a graduate of my songwriting course and a long standing fixture of the East Belfast music scene. He has recently been awarded funding by the Arts and Disability Forum to record an album. Jim’s style is a mix of folk, rock and storytelling which is at once personal and energetic.
Colin McAleer: We Were Meant to Be
Colin is a singer-songwriter with a clear country influence. Here is a contemporary love song he recorded in the Bangor studio recently.
Caris Arnold Singing ‘As the Crow Flies’ from Nashville
Caris is a GCSE music student and often sings classical music in the choir at school. Here she is doing something completely different and it sounds lovely.
‘Split the Rocks’ by Jonathan Cooke
Jonathan has been writing songs since 2017. He’s a keen lyricist and his songs feature a strong theme of overcoming.
‘State of Grace’ Sung by Natalie Orr
Natalie is currently practising for her Grade 6 Rock and Pop. This is a bespoke track recorded for the exam.
‘Jealous’ Sung by Darren Cosgrove
Darren is a Bangor local and likes to sing to friends and family, although he is about to hit a bigger audience!
‘Never Giving Up on You’ by Ryan Simpson
Ryan is a gifted Bangor-based singer-songwriter who popped along to the studio to have a song recorded. It’s a lovely acoustic love song.
